Meet the person you are saving for

See4YourFutureSelf lets people see, hear and talk to their own older self. We study whether that encounter helps people engage with their pension today.

What it is about

Your future self should not feel like a stranger

Saving for retirement means giving something up now for a person you will be decades from now. For many people that person feels like a stranger. Researchers call the felt connection between your present and future self future self-continuity. People who feel more connected to their future self tend to be more patient and save more.

See4YourFutureSelf turns one selfie and a short voice recording into an older version of you. We test which way of meeting that older self strengthens the connection most, why it works, and whether it moves people to act on their pension.
